HOMEMADE AUCTION A HUGE SUCCESS!  NOVEMBER 2009

Picture
This year's homemade auction was another HUGE success.   We hosted at the Cicero Red Bridge Park Community Center, the third year in a row we've expanded our site for this event!

Thanks goes out to each of the ladies who made items and to each of the ladies who purchased them.  This year again, over $1000 was raised to be used by our club to help local charities, the 4-H program and other organizations that we support.

It's not too soon to start thinking about what you would like to make for next year!

MAKING POSTCARDS OUT OF OLD CARDS
AND WELCOME BABY!

Picture
This month our lesson was on refreshing old cards by cutting them into postcard sizes and mailing them out!

We were given guidelines from the Post Office on size and thickness requirements.

Now we can put those old cards to use!

A new baby in the club is always a good excuse to have cake and presents!  Welcome to our newest and youngest member!

FOOD AND CRAFT SHOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The 4-H Fair is always a highlight of the year.  Our club helped with the Food & Craft show on Friday and Saturday.  This event is open to anyone in the public and it's always exciting to see new entries.  Below are some of the ladies helping to check in photography, baked goods, and blankets.

Another fun part of helping with this event is listening to the judges' comments and finding out how to improve our skills.

If you haven't entered in the past, next year would be a great time to start.  There will be new categories added next year.

NEW CLUB OFFICERS

Picture
Our new club officers were installed at the June meeting.  We also exchanged gifts as we revealed Secret Pals, then drew for new Secret Pals.  A delicious salad pitch-in was enjoyed by all.

FUTURE HOMEMAKERS

Picture
Young daughters of one of our members are regular attenders at the meetings.  These two young ladies are learning early how to be good homemakers and to make a difference in their community.  It is fun watching them grow!

QUILTSHOP HOSTS MEETING

Meetings are held in a variety of places.  Thanks to Always in Stitches for hosting in February, during a terrible thunderstorm!

CHRISTMAS DINNER 2008

Our December meeting was a wonderfully catered meal to celebrate Christmas.  Afterward, we opened presents from our Secret Pals.

HOMEMADE AUCTION 2008

Some of the many items for the 2008 Homemade Auction are displayed at the November meeting.  This year it was held at Cicero Library and we enjoyed many visitors and friends.  We made over $1000.00 and this money will be used to help some of the food pantries in our community, to buy awards/plaques for the 4-H fair, and for other outreach opportunities throughout the year.

CREATIVE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOUSE A HOME

In October, our lesson was on creative ways to make your house a home.  Sometimes just adding a personal touch with photos, simmering cider, or organization can change the atmosphere and make the home a welcoming place for family and guests.

FOOD AND CRAFT SHOW 2008

The food and craft show is open to the public during the 4-H fair.  We often have members volunteer to help with registration and judging.

HOMEMAKERS KITCHEN 2008

During the 4-H fair in July, we sign up to help with the Homemakers Kitchen.  This is the main county fundraiser which supports scholarships and other donations made by Extension Homemakers.  We have a good time hanging out with other homemakers and enjoying some delicious food.

HERO BAGS

In April we gathered to make 10 Hero Bags to be filled by local 4-H clubs.  These bags are then given to boys and girls who have a parent serving in the military.  This is a statewide project that Hamilton County is involved in.

HOMEMADE AUCTION 2007

The  Homemade Auction in November has become our annual fundraiser for our club.  Many of the ladies bring homemade foods and crafts to be auctioned off.  This comes at a great time of year as many of the items are bought to give as Christmas gifts.

GOURD PAINTING

One of our projects this year was learning how to clean and paint gourds.

BABY ITEMS FOR WIC

Hamilton County Extension Homemakers monthly donates a baby basket full of items for babies and moms to the WIC program.  There is always a need for diapers, wipes, baby toiletries and new baby items.   These items can be brought to the monthly meetings or dropped off at the Extension Office.
